ERCOT is the Texas agency that oversees the greater part the large Texas electricity grid.

The agency watches usage levels, studies trends and is in constant communication with the electricity producers in the state of Texas.
Also ERCOT officials talked about the potential gulf hurricane season approaching.
An ERCOT meteorologist said they expect a pretty uneventful season on the Gulf Coast.
“I lean toward zero or one named storm, so at this point, I’m leaning toward a quiet season,” Coleman, the meteorologist said.
Back on the issue of surplus electricity for the approaching summer, Dan Woodfin, ERCOT’s Director of System Operations, said he gets this as a common question from the public.[spacer] [one_half] [image size=”none” width=”280″ height=”240″ no_lightbox=”true” open_new_tab=”false” fancy=”true” shadow=”true”]http://www.roundrockelectricity.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/ERCOT_control_above_20130528170822_320_240.jpg[/image] [/one_half][one_half last]”The main thing is to keep the lights on,” Woodfin said. “How do we do that? We make sure that we’ve got adequate generating capacity online.”
Woodfin said we shouldn’t have any problem if the summer heat this year matches last year’s temperatures. He felt that if the heat was no worse, there should be no rotating electricity outages around the state. “We’re not expecting to have to do that (rolling outages) this summer,” Woodfin said.

“We do expect to have adequate reserves,” said Lasher. “Next summer, our expectation actually is that there will be more reserves. We’ve got several power plants that are going to be coming online.”
He did throw in a caveat though: He says if this summer is as hot as 2011, all bets are off. Here’s to hoping for a mild summer! -RRE
